Description

Over the years, my girlfriend and I have coined the sentence “This is prime Moose country” quite often even in countries where the animal doesn’t even live.  “Moose Country” is our go-to term for describing terrain with a lot of water and thick high brush.  Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, USA is full of it, but here there actually are moose and lots of it.

Oxbow Bend is one of the most photographed parts of the park.  The reason is the great view of the Teton range combined with one of the best views of the  habitat of moose, elk and bears.  Add to this a sunset and you know there is going to be a lot of photographers there every day.

Although I did shoot the sunset from more or less the same spot later on, this image was shot turning 180 degrees away from the Tetons and shows the perfect “Moose Country”.  Lucky for me there was actually a moose grazing at that moment.  It shows the world of a moose perfectly and of all the lenses that were there that evening, mine was the only one that actually saw him.
