Waking up on a boat in one of the most beautiful fjords in the world is an experience on its own. Looking out and seeing the calm waters and beautiful weather only adds to the experience. We had chosen to overnight on the Milford Sound with our daughter to be able to avoid the herds of tourists and to give us a wonderful memory as a family . Boy did it work well.
The Milford Sound is a beautiful place to spend time but nice weather is not something that comes standard there. So the fact that we had a beautiful day to drive to Milford, a beautiful and calm night and an equally nice morning made it special. Cruising the Sound before any of the tourist boats where there was a nice bonus.
We came to port while the first other tourist cruise went out so the Sound (wrongly named because it’s actually a fjord) was calm and before heading back to the car, I photographed this stunning natural landmark.
We later found out that during that day a storm rolled in and covered the Sound in rain for the next 10 days, so we were in luck that day.
